Choose which ever you think you like if you want to buy it. They both look similarly specced from what you have provided. If you need to run both mac and windows than go for the mac otherwise the HP will probably be better priced than the Mac and will be built more for windows than the mac system.

What are you planning on using the laptop for?

Next time if you could provide links to the sites with the spec's that would be greatly appreciated.

If it was me I would go with the HP.

If I didn't have to choose either I would get possibly a Sony or IBM laptop even though they are more expensive.

What is the rest of the spec's of the mac e.g. hard drive capacity??

Whichever you buy I recommend you format the hard drive before using it and re-install xp or vista off another disc or even better buy the laptop without a hard drive buy it separately an then install xp or vista and avoid the bloatware that plagues HP computers in particular.

that is a very good mac. i have a bigger, better version of it. tyou cant run as many games as windows but its still good. ill talk about the specs u gave. more may be helpful (harddrive, etc)

intel is the only way to go.

i would put 4gb of ram into it. your choice. a good harddrive and a good graphics card would be nice to.

biggest screen is better because that means you can fit mor einternals into the computer.

I fail to see the big deal..
It's not worth the money. And besides that, my dads office laptop is actually faster. Other then that I'd never take memory of Intel (never knew they actually made memory). You're better of with some stuff of OCZ, Kingston or Team.

Do you know what GPU it can get?

To get this clearly it is not a MACPRO Notebook, it is a Macbook Pro. I myself run a Macbook Pro with a 17" display and 2,33 ghz Intel Core 2 Dou. It is one of the best notebooks I have ever seen, for professionals.

But as somebody else said before, it depends on your needs. For gaming I recommend NOT to buy a Mac (neither a Macbook nor a Macbook Pro nor any Mac). The Mac Pro series including the Macbook Pro's are for professionals. So you have to decide, do you need that power ?

If you want gaming performance, watch out for "alienware"!
If you want to run windows for non gaming I recommend dell or HP !

i think macs are really hot & the best laptops around due to its performance & easy usability.

one of the things that i found out is that macs are really ahead in technology really advanced than any other company

I use a Mac myself and I can only recommend to leave windows behind and begin a new life with an UNIX based operation system. They are stable, secure and especially the Mac is very easy to use, because of its the wonderful GUI.

For sure, if you look at the iphone, yes, but I do not think that is the point in computer market any more. Apple uses intel chips as well (for sure more compatibility, but the general RISC architecture was the better choice) the only thing that my differs, Apple use always the best. For example inside my Macbook Pro there is a T7600 from intel (Link to buy, price 699 $).

Another point is, Apple produces the computers as well as the operation system, so if there is new hardware, the operation system will be full compatible at the release date. That is the reason why I choose the mac. It just works.

It's exactly the point why I would never ever want a Mac. Besides from the OS that I don't like all that much (mainly cause it can't play most games), you can't upgrade hardware yourself, you'll need a full new Mac. Overclocking can't be done on Macs cause there isn't any high-end cooler and exept for the CPU there are no real high-end hardware components availible (I'm mainly talking about graphic cards). As far as I know there aren't any Macs with a 8800 Ultra on board, so even if you'd have XP (don't want Vista, yet), you still can't have games on their full max settings. For the price Apple charges I'd expect better, much better.

Oh, and I'm not some cheap guy complaining cause I can't afford one. I'm about to spend 3100 USD on computer parts and I think I'd be able to get a decent Apple for that. But I just don't like them. The OS, the looks and the price/performance ratio.

Not trying to bash it, just giving my opinion on it. Don't take it personal.

You never tried a Mac right ? and there is the problem !
How can you talk about overclocking the mac (really a ver nice topic) if you do not have a mac?
Mac mini G4
G4 1Ghz to 1.2 Ghz (25 % increase)
G4 1.25 Ghz to 1.5 Ghz (20% increase)
for further tips about overclocking the mac just sent a PM !

About Upgrades:
CPU
Ram upgrade is similar to the PC
Graphic cards, for sure the offer is not the same you see on the Pc market, but what about combining the power ?
for example choose 4 ATI Radeon 2600 HD or a Geforce Quador 5600 with 1,5 GB VRam

No high end ? sorry, two 3.2 Ghz Quad-core CPU's (8 cores) are not enough, you are right, but for me ,I am very happy about my Core 2 Duo running at 2,33 Ghz it is fast enough!

About gaming, for sure I would never recommend to pay a Mac for gaming, because you do not need a Mac, every high end windows computer is enough.

But for professionals, for example video editing, 3d rendering, the Mac is the best platform available. And for all the others it is a very nice feature to have a Mac because you do not longer have to handle with that much bugs or viruses. The Mac is stable and secure.

About the OS, 125 $ for a full featured operation system is not that high! What about windows Vista ultimate ? price /performance ration ? price is higher , performance lower so what, I do not get your point !

About features, for sure you could also use open source software to generate an operation system that looks like a Mac and offers the same features. But collecting the components and configuring the hole stuff is quiet difficult.

The first desktop based Operation system was NEXT (hope you know about that) using a mouse (development master "Steve Jobs", who is the head of the Apple foundation right now). Now watch the actual operation system releases, compare Vista to tiger (the processor form the actual Leopard) and you are going to see tiger wins. All the features Vista offers are already available in tiger.

About the price Apple is again the leading edge, compare the actual Apple Pro line to dell, Hp or any other and you will see, if you choose the same components Apple is cheaper.

If you have 3100 USD to spend on computer components, you are very lucky, I spend 2000 € last year bough a laptop, which is leading edge today as well. (T7600 (2,33 Ghz) 2 GB and an 1600 with 256 MB Ram)

Me, too, but I do not like people who tell lies, sorry, the points you mentioned are not true. Things changed ! Windows is Mainstream, but this does not mean windows is the leading edge. How many other operation system did you try ? Have you ever taken a look at Solaris, INIX, HP UX or any UNIX ? And that is the point most people judge about these things just by repeating what others said.

I am not that kind of person who says the Mac is the solution for everything, but the Mac is very easy to handle and a very powerful tool.

For gaming the Mac is useless, because for gaming you need a very powerful graphic card (for sure there are very very powerful cards for the Mac, but they are quite expensive), so for all the gamers I recommend windows or something designed for gaming (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii)

Read think post. (first read, more then one comment, then think about it and then post your opinion.)

When I said you can't overclock I was actually talking about those iMac's. Where everything is built into the monitor. I can't really imagine it being able to get good results (nearing the 4GHz).

I read something about Macs which said that it had some sort of chip (I really don't know the name anymore) that will block Mac OS working on certain configurations/hardware components. I'm talking about sound cards, graphic cards, mobo's ect.

I might be wrong. But I thought the Q6850 was Intel's best ATM (exept for one Penryn/Yorkfield. Don't know what it's clocks are but it can't have two I think. As far as I know only Intel's Xeon CPU's could do that. Might be wrong though.

Another thing I read (seemed pretty legit) is that Mac's actually has more potential viruses then Windows. It's just that Windows gets exploited much more. I'm sure that if 40% of the people would use Mac OS that it would get all the virus trouble too. Other then that. Just get a virus scanner and the problem is solved. I've got some free one from my dad. Free in the sense of Shell giving it.

I guess that if you don't want to spend 1k on Premier Pro iMovie is a very good deal (it's included, right? Full version, or am I wrong?). Then 3d rendering.. I really have got no idea. Don't know why Windows or Mac would be better. Mainly cause I've got no idea what the criteria is for a good PC for 3d rendering (excluding 3d rendering for games).

Then the price for the OS. First of all, you have to have a Mac for MacOS. And for enthusiasts who just like to build their own computer that's pretty unfortunate if they want to run MacOS on it. Secondly, Vista Ultimate is actually cheaper (OEM). If you're just using it for one PC then why not just buy an OEM. If you want to replace the mobo all you've got to do is call MS and tell them your mobo broke. Thirdly, MS only comes up with a new OS every 4 years. They come with one that can last even much longer (Just look at XP). Apple wants you to buy a new one every 2 years, so then it's actually more expensive. If you bought XP on it's release day you'll now have had something like 6 years (not sure) with a OS that still is great and not out-dated. And fourthly, I wasn't comparing it to Vista (which is a resource hog) but to XP.

Components for a computer? It's easy. It's just like a puzzle basically. A puzzle with just 10 parts.
And getting personalised OS would cost a bomb. And why get that if I'm happy with XP anyway.

Then we come to the price. You do know that they just have been sued for their weird prices. All of Apple's products are expensive. From iPod's to iMac's.
I'm sure some might be cheaper, but in general..

That 3100 is from me and my dad. I'm 14, I can't afford a full high-end system yet. I'm contributing about 1400. Earnt by delivering papers on Thursdays.

Actually, I've only used the Windows (all versions starting from 95.) and MacOS tiger. I just didn't like tiger somehow. Felt gimick like. But that's just my personal opinion.

And lastly, the graphiccard. The reason I said you can't have a high-end graphic card in an iMac is because it simply will just not fit.

Just look, a full ATX mobo with a 8800 Ultra on it. I don't think you'd be able to fit it into a monitor. It can't even fit in most PC cases.

That's 30 cm or something like that (in the thirties).
