I really like Apple, for sure but I disagree with their decision to switch from PowerPC (RISC) to intel (CISC). Every professional can tell you the RISC architecture is superior to the CISC architecture, so why the hell does Apple stop using the RISC ?
Official Apple statement: "intel is more successful"
I disagree with this statement, because the Power6 the successor of the G5 (also known as Power5) is the fastest chip on earth. (all spec jbb 2005 records)
IBM System p 570 performance data
And besides it all gaming consoles the xbox 360 , the PS3 and the Nitendo Wii are all based the RISC architecture !
So as these two examples show you IBM is still very successful.
Now the next statement: "Intel macs run faster then PowerPc Macs"
That is true, but thing about the step from the G4 to the G5 or from the G3 to G4, there is always an speed bump. Therefore there is a speed bump from G5 to intel xeon but there would be a major speed bump from G5 to G6.
But I also want to mention the good things, that is the compatibility to windows and the mainstream. And I myself, also only switched to Mac because I have the ability to run Windows as well. So the switch was a marketing decision, but Apple hide all this behind a lie.
I would like to see a G6, for professionals !
