Default o my god... im dead...

o god.. m panting.. o god..
please help me ...
i just installed the webinstaller.php from simplemachines.org and uploaded it to the root.. i opened the webinstaller.php via browser. i did the first step.. installed it to the root (BIG MISTAKE) ... then in the second step they asked me for the databse.. but then i realized that my joomla installation was done in the root...
i went to the file manager, and i was devastated by what i saw...
the index.php file of joomla had been overwritten by the smf index.php file...
i cant bear the agony now... please tell me what to do...how do i regain the index.php file of joomla.... i have worked for more than 400 hours on this joomla site... there are so many users in it.. theres so much publicity being done about it...
please help me regain the site...

1) never panic!

Everything with joomla is done in the database..
you just need to download joomla, and upload the index.php file to the right place!

Remember I told you to put it in a subfolder! :P

i copied another joomla's index.php to the joomla root and it overwrote the smf file...
and it worked...
i guess all joomla's index.php files are same..its all about the components, and modules, and templates inside that changes everything

even components, modules, mambots will work if you just overwrite the files. Main thing you need to worry about is the configuration file and your database. As a precaution always backup your database when you are making alot of changes. Never backup your site and leave it under public_html or root folder of your website. Always save it to your computer because saving a backup file on your website poses a huge security risk unless you secure them with a password and place them in your home folder instead of public_html.

now there's another problem.. i deleted all the files that were there due to smf and then uploaded the webinstaller.php again..
but this time when i ran it , it didnt even show me the option to enter the location for installing smf...
dunno why its taking everything as default.. maybe i havent deleted some of the files.. dunno which ones to delete... m being quite protective..are there any folders like..
_vti_bin
_vti_cnf
_vti_log
in any normal site..are these server generated or smf generated? ill delete them if they're smf generated..

why not just upload the files manually instead of using the auto-installer?

if you delete _vti files, you might not be able to access your account from frontpage. You can check the files by comparing folders on your ftp and folder on your compter for smf.

ive not used the upload and install much..
so, i need advice that whether i should extract the zip file on my comp and then upload...
or should i just upload the zip file and extract it in the file manager?

is up to you on that - I upload each file when it is extracted - that would only take about 3 minutes for me!

unzip on your computer and upload the files using your ftp.

ok.. i experimented by just uploading the zip file via file manager... and i found out that we can extract the file in the file manager itself ..well, this procedure saves you some time ... and some of your transfer limit offered by service provider ... enjoy
