| Sorry but I posted this message before. but i have not heared from you. while browsing this forum I found that I should start a new topic if it is not related to the prev. topic. So I'm starting a new topic. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, I changed some folder permissions to solve writing to file problem; finally I found that the perm of that file should be 646 or 777 not the default 644 eventhough i was using 755 on the old host. So would you please give me the best permissions for saftey.. These are current permisions: + .cpanel 755 + .htpasswds 750 + .trash 700 + access-logs 777 + etc (644) Domain Names, Shared Web Hosting and Site Design Tools - MyDomain (0 Bytes text/x-generic perm: 0000) + mail (750) courierimapkeywords cur new + public_ftp 744 incoming (440) + public_html 755 - - + tmp (755) analog (755) awstats (755) cpbandwidth (755) webalizer (755) webalizerftp (755) + www 777 - - .bash_logout 644 .bash_profile 644 .bashrc 644 .contactemail 600 .lang 644 .lastlogin 600 dailyreport_off 644 s_imapstatus 644 Are those correct values for safe site, Is it ok to have 0000 permission to the Register a Domain, Find Hosting and Create a Website at Domain.com under etc or i made that to happen when I changed the etc perm and then caused the writing permission problem.? What is public_ftp for? there is no anonymous login correct?? Can I backup database using ftp? if yes in which folder?? Sorry too many questions and Thanks for your time and support. Regards, also i got this error from the cpanel when i click on (/home/webster/etc/www.mydomain.com) Not Found The server was not able to find the document (./frontend/x3/files/selspecial.html) you requested. Please check the url and try again. You might also want to report this error to your webhost. |

| we only recommend changing permissions for files in "public_html" folder. A permission of 777 is not safe but it will all depends on how your scripts works. Every script works differently and you need to follow the requirements. A general rule is to keep the default settings and try to avoid 777 or 775. The default on our server is 644 and it's the safest setting for most files in "public_html" folder. public_ftp is ftp folder for public access. Clients are not allowed to setup any form of public_ftp, so please ignore that. Backup files are generated through cpanel and they will be stored in your home folder of your ftp. You can also download backup database files by logging into cpanel and clicking on backup As for the cpanel error, please submit a ticket with proper details if you keep encountering it.
