Default PHP Fsockopen

Hello,

I would like to know if the PHP fsockopen function is disabled for free accounts.

If so does any know of an alternative to it or if I can use ini_set to change for 1 script?

If it helps I am trying to find the status of a server by seeing if I can open a connection to it.

Thanks.

fsockopen function is not disabled on the server. However, we do have very strict firewall options enabled that might prevent certain port access especially from remote url.

Thanks for your reply.

Also can I open a socket to another server or is that not allowed?

ie fsockopen("the ip", "8484", $errno, $errstr, "timeout");

you are welcome to try it and see if it works. If you are unable to make the connection, that means it's either blocked by remote server or our server is preventing the connection from being made.
