| OK, on one of the other setups on my site I now get Quote:

| well it sounds as if you have the link to your mySQL incorrect hence the "Unable to form a valid connection to mySQL." It may have worked over night but any editing you may have done between working and not working might be the answer. it could be mysql though... i tried to log into my support/database and am getting errors. |

| First check your file permission - http://www.profusehost.net/forum/kno...ver-error.html (500 Internal Server Error) Also, check your config.php file to see if your settings are correct. MySQL is working fine.

| This looks like it is a mySQL error. Don't suppose you guys have a backup from three days ago? I have tried resetting the core but it is unable to recognise the admin user and password. Reuploading the files wouldn;t help as far as I can tell as it is unable to access the sql database for some reason. Last edited by truckle : 08-06-2006 at 11:02 AM. |

| sorry we don't have a automatic backup system. You can always generate your own backup by logging into cpanel.

| That isn;t much help when you don;t remember to do it and the whole site appears to be totally screwed ![]() Can I just say the above IS NOT A DIG. I know I should have been doing my own backups but when everything runs ok it isn't something you think about. I will have a look at starting my site again. John, could you please bear with me and make sure my account remains while I rebuild it? Thanks in advance Last edited by truckle : 08-06-2006 at 11:44 AM. |

| its almost like a hint to do it anyways. its not johns fault the server had a critical and with all that they give you and all that john does im not supprised they dont do server back up. if i were you id not only back it up but keep all the scripts you made in a folder called weblog and write installation instructions incase you forget. |
| |||
| I don;t mean to criticise. It was more of a forlorn hope. I don;t look forward to setting the site up again from scratch which is why I asked. I also don't blame John but I would love to know what actually happened to screw my site. For a while the Woltlab I uploaded was reporting mySQL as being blocked but it is now working fine. So what caused that to happen and what released it? The main content of my site is elsewhere (the download links point to that webspace) as I wasnt sure what profuse hosts view of rar files was. |

| we added more security policies to the server to prevent abuse. Most scripts that do have problem working is due to the permission of folders and files. The server will automatically stop the script if the permission is greater than 755. More info - http://www.profusehost.net/forum/kno...ver-error.html (500 Internal Server Error)

| Hi, The database address is to be used as "localhost" It appears there was database corruption previously which can easily be resolved by using database repair within the panel. I never used e107 before so I can not see what is the issue with the care. My suggestion is simple. Back up your database which should contain the articles / posts unless you several daamaged the integrity of the data then there is no point. Once backed up, reupload e107 files and instead go through installtion process. Once done redump your backup of the database and edit your config to appropriately connect to the database again. -William |

| The database is fine. It appears that profuse host no longer want sites running e107. Quite simply e107 requirs 777 permissions on some folders to work. I cannot set the permissions to anything to get the site to work due to this new unannounced policy by profusehost |

| Hi Truckle, The unannounced policy by profusehost was simple. A hacker threaten the integrity of your data as well as your websites. We made an immediate decision to resecured the server according to clients needs however ensuring a very high security as well. Just like most security policy the more secured it is something is given up which in this case is convenience. You can simply blame this issue on a vietmanese hacker group which is probably trying to get back in. |
| |||
| Hi Truckle, This issue was done for some time already. You stated that it only happen 2-3 days ago so this is something that was not caused by the policy changed. You must understand in a "free" sharing environment there are more abuse so there are policies that are required to ensure the integrity of your data. If you require a more robust hosting with no policies changes due to local users who tries to intrude the system then you must go to a more budget or paid hosting. This is something that is out of the hands of free hosts. Lets not argue of this further and wish you the best of luck. |
| |||
| ok so if it wasn't by the policy change then what was it? The site had been fine for weeks until then so what else has been changed you haven't mentioned yet as even a totally fresh install of e107 fails to work with exactly the same error. |
