Time Zones

Has anyone else ever actually thought deeply about time zones? I think they're ridiculous! Time zones actually suggest that you can take a flight from California to Japan and actually land 3 hours before you took off. In fact, I heard of one person that strategically crossed the international date line and actually skipped his birthday. Time zones, in my opinion, are stupid. The only function they serve is that the position of the sun is generally the same at the same time of day all over the world. For instance, time zones make it so the sun rises at 6:00 AM in Ohio and it also rises at 6:00 AM in California. If time zones were removed completely, it would just make it so different times of the day happen at different times depending on where you are. So the sun could rise at 6:00 AM in Ohio, but it would rise at 9:00 AM in California. That seems a hell of a lot simpler than worrying what time it is depending on where you are. What do you guys think?

Time zones are in relation to the pattern of the sun rotating around the Earth. They make it possible to have a generic dawn time be around 6am and make it easier for travelers who have to wake up to not have to realize that instead of waking up at 5:00PM which is dawn where he ussually lives, it's 7:00 AM.

It also guides television broadcasting which broadcast the same show nationally at the same designated time, 6:00PM whether your in NYC or silicon valley CA.

It's a lot more difficult if we took time zones out altogehter. As rock said, if you went to japan, I don't want to be going to bed at 6:00am and worrying about everything else.
