1. submit your site - http://www.google.com/addurl.html
2. get some backlinks to your website from website that are already indexed in Google search.
3. Make sure your site is focused on specific keywords and you have content on your website. Google wants to index everything on the net and they prefer sites that have content on them and content that is worth reading.
4. Submit your site to free online directory.

hmmm.... I didn;t do that, they just spider my previous website due to it being a fansite(aka links to it being all over the game's forum due to my signature =D)

I did that when my forum was hosted on invisionfree.I first submitted my site to Google then i put my sites link in many other forums.After that i affiliated with forum those have many members and my site got listed in Google in less than a month and it's pages started getting indexed by Google on weekly basis.
