I started to use http://www.ccleaner.com/ recently.

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less that a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware!

I've found that GIMP is a really nice alternative to photoshop. It's been ported to more than just linux now. Just do a search for GIMP {OS}. On Mac OS X it runs very well under X11.
Also, don't forget about open office. A nice open source alternative to Microsoft Office. If you're using a mac, there's a native port called neo-office, as openoffice.org won't have the aqua native application ready for alpha testing until at least the first quarter of 07.

GIMP is ok. more for graphic manipulating and less for creating images but when it comes to free photoshop alternative its definitly a good one.

Nero has released Nero 7 Premium which has a music player and a (pretty good) photo editor/workshop! When did this happen!

nero is good. i have nero express cd & dvd burner. it lets me make mp3 cds probably 50x bigger than regular Cds and its works extreamly fast
