I think it also depends on your bandwidth which is the best ftp client for you. For me it is FUSE because, it directly integrates the Server like an external drive so I can easily access the data on the server with any Application I want to, then the file is loaded to my Ram and when I finished my work it is uploaded again. I do not have to care about anything, if one connection fails it reconnects and I never notice it (only if I read the log).

But I have to wast some bandwidth to have all these features, but I do not care about that, because it is much easier to work with.

I also use fireftp extension for firefox when I am in cafe or in systems without a ftp software. Still, I use CoreFTP as my main ftp software. I downloaded filezilla, the open source one, but is showing errors in some Windows systems I use. I also use winSCP portable.

I also use SmartFTP.

I have a commercial paid version of SmartFTP.

I find that it is a great program and works well when trying to manage many sites at once. It is good to be able to transfer files and folders and edits things on more than one site at once through the program.

If you use Firefox you don't need FTP program!!!
FileZilla is good but you don't need it!
There is Mozzila Firefox Add-on named FireFTP!

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/684
Try it!!!

I'm using Cuteftp, it's quite easy to use.

The biggest reason is it spends quite less Ram.

you can search the trial version.

If you really want to have registered version, I can share with you.

You might leave a message to me !!

Unfortunatley, SmartFTP has now become payware, as I found to my cost when my build expired. You do get a 15 day trial though.

Shame really. It was a good client.

I like FileZilla. It's free, (Free software, FTW!) and works well with ProfuseHost. Only problem I've ever had is that it disconnects sometimes when transferring a large amount of files.

EDIT:

I personally use fetch. Its easy to use. Simple. Sleak and has a dog running when your uploading and downloading! Just great really. Though ftp apps are all the same really. Fetch is Mac compatable and has windows/linux versions too i believe.

If you talk about freeware, I'd say FileZilla any time! Because it is open source and it is light weight on the system. The best is that it is updated most of the times. It is portable and multi-language too.

I am using Filezilla now after tried several program before. never thought there are so much more choice available over the net and each program has its supporter, even the program I left behind many years ago. Looks I have to try new thing and learn which is more suitable with me. I will first try fireftp and coreFTP.

Using FireFTP for a year now. I get a lot of time-outs though. Is this some known problem with FireFTP or is it just me?

FireZilla is the best I would say though I use FireFTP sometimes (if Firefox is already open). But I've also used SmartFTP and CureFTP before and they were both good .
