Default Review My Website wired.profusehost.net

My website is http://wired.profusehost.net. Could people please review my site and tell me what they think of it and what needs improving please.

I am currently in Year 12 so haven't had much time to add lots of content other than trying to slowly get a good design happening and thinking about how to redesign the whole site to work better.

I was hoping for some reviews on my site so that I know what is good, what is bad and what there needs to be more of.

If anyone would like a free email account delivered by Google web apps which is username @wired.profusehost.net please email me at admin@wired.profusehost.net and I will give you one.

Any good reviews posted here may be featured on a new reviews page on my site.

Thanks for reviewing my site in advance.

***Sorry about above post, when a Mod sees it then it should be deleted***

First off, woah those are bright colors. I almost was blinded when I first went to your page. Beyond that the design is fairly simple and straight forward (thats a good thing).

Something nice would be to keep the menu bars on the left side of the page there all the time, even when you go from page to page.

The "What it is" page doesn't seem to work.
The "Get Involved" pages layout seems a little messed up, I think it should look more like the "Options" page.

After looking a little more, I think if you are going to use buttons for your left hand menu on all the other pages then it should be the same on your homepage.

Overall not a bad job at all.

I fixed the What Is It page problem.

I still have to fix the menu navigation on the robcoup pages as I haven't had a chance to do it yet but hopefully will have some time soon probably after trial exams.

The home page of the robocup site is meant to be the same as the main home page including all the robocup pages as hose buttons didn't seem to work the way I wanted them. I know I can vertically align them to the top but its easier to add them if they use css like my main page does.

You thought that the red was too bright what do you think would have looked good instead or what were your expectations?

Thanks I still believe it has a long journey ahead of its self to be fully operational and look really good but its slowly getting there.

Thanks for the help Zanadoo.

i think you should use a CMS for your site to manage content efficiently.
I think for beginners Joomla is the best ... go to http://www.joomla.org

also you should use a good theme with your technical side would be best.

start a forum & also go to a domain name better & also register for Google Adsense & make some $$$

Then invite people to your site & also write posts on forums in the internet regarding your site theme - like electronic gadgets forums & etc...

I am currently using Joomla for the IT Articles part of my site and it works a treat and is so easy to use. I also have a copy of Typo but have yet to use it.

The theme I have for the technical side are you referring to the IT Article section or Robocup section as the them I am using for IT Articles is the one I found suited it the best and have yet to find a good theme for the other sections. Do you have any that you could recommend that are good, Flickall?

I have started a forum but haven't used it much yet. And haven't made a section for internet that includes posts on theme and electronic gadget forum etc.

like electronic gadgets forums & etc... Do you mean having these as boards on the forum or as separate forums as it would be easier to have one.

The installation of Phpbb is a great forum but is there a mod that can clean up and make the admin board better such as being able to delete multiple users or block them and to send an email to them upon these actions or is there a forum that is better than Phpbb that is also free.

Does anyone know where I can get new themes for phpbb as the one I have isn't too crash hot and looks a bit ugly.

I have an Adsense account but haven't earned much yet. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do to improve my $$$ other than adding more adds as I need to do that but so far haven't found time.

Thanks for re-enforcing what I have done right and what needs more work on my site.

How is your site going Flickall after the problem you had with two of your pages.

Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks for your help in advance.

Thanks again Flickall.

I've tried using Joomla before and it's been my personal experience that e107 is a better CMS system. I've tried using PHPNuke before too but I didn't really like it. www.e107.org it may be something worth checking out and considering. It's the system I used to create my site www.gaparkour.com

You may want to disable html on your forum because it can be used maliciously to grab your users cookies

I have had a look at e107 before but don't have the time to install a different cms and don't want to as joomla does what I want.

How do I disable html on my phpbb forum do you mean html code in posts or what? Please explain...

Currently trying to update the site and add new things when I have time but does take a while to do. Trying to make the same layout/design for all pages.

Which part are you talking about that needs work. If you are referring to the robocup links at the left upper part of the left hand navigation bar than I already know that I need to fix the pages and I am already on it but haven't finished them all and that is why the pages haven't been uploaded with the correct formatting but I am fixing it.

I would like to know what you think, spartan3 of the rest of my site with the links up the top.

I like Joomla and am currently testing out Typo3 but haven't been able to find a good template for it yet! Hopefully will soon but takes longer to figure out how to use it.

Thanks, the forum skin before was really ugly. Hopefully I don't have any problems with it and haven't so far because it's still in beta release stages.

I am aiming to change and redesign the site properly at the end of the year after my HSC year 12 exams are over as they are currently taking up lots of time and just trying to get the pages to look the same first before changing anything else as yet.

What do you think of the wireless thing that I am trying to kick off? What would be your addition to it?? Trying to find time to finish it ad keep up with the posts on my forum as I am the main poster currently but would be awesome if some others started to post a bit more too as I do have a few members.

I keep checking your site every now and again to see how yours is going and its looking pretty good although I think that there is a little too much content on the homepage. Is there a way that you can still have all that stuff on there but maybe take up less space or redesign it so the eyes don't go haywire as mine found it hard to focus. But the amount of content is great. Hopefully mine get as much as yours at some stage!

Forgot to add your homepage seems to be done a bit too low. Any reason for this as it's just white space or is there meant to be an add there?

By the way, Spartan with the post you posted above about my site being up to scratch that's because I've currently got my HSC - Year 12 exams to finish and I can't seem to find any mention of a site you have made so therefore you are criticising other people like myself that have put a substantial effort into creating their sites but also lots of work in the back end that people like you don't see so I was just wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing your supposed piece of art....

I like the content of the site but I think it needs a major face lift. I don't know if your using CSS but if you aren't then it might help. Hope that helps.

I am currently using css on most of the website and I am also in the stages of learning JavaScript as well.

I am currently in the status of working up some new design ideas for the entire site to give it a much needed face lift and to give it a common design throughout the site.

Once I have worked up my design I will post the link to it here to find out what you think of it.

BTW thanks for the feedback
