Why don't you just install thunderbird to a password enabled user account so that she cannot access it and set a separate one up for her too if needed.

Is this alright or do you really absolutely want a password for thunderbird.

If you do I would suggest you look on their website to see if they have a solution to your problem.

I am also using thunderbird. The earlier opinion is a good one but if anyone is determined to check your mail, its possible. What is to be done is just copy the 'Thundebird' folder in the 'Application Datas' folder of your account to 'Application Datas' folder of the other person's account and start the thunderbird. All mails will be visible to that user too as Windows is not providing much protection for files.

Also, locking your 'Thunder bird' folder in 'Application Datas ' with an external software won't do much good as it may affect Thunderbird's working. What we need is some Thunderbird addon to encrypt your files with a password and I haven't found one yet. If your OS is any Linux disto, you will have much options to stop accessing your files by someone else.
