Default Domain function

So I'm planing to buy a domain. It will be my first ever though and I've got a little question. Is it possible to have a domain example.net, work like [yoursubdomain].profusehost.net? So if you've got a forum on [yoursubdomain].profusehost.net/forum and you visit example.net/forum you'll get the [yoursubdomain].profusehost.net/forum page but the browser says it's example.net/forum.

And all links will be example.net too instead of [yoursubdomain].profusehost.net

yes by parking your domain, you should be able to do pretty much everything you described in your forum. Basically when you park a domain, you are simply adding extra domain. So if you enter domain.net, it will automatically take you to domain.profusehost.net. If you enter domain.net/forum, it will automatically take you to domain.profusehost.net/forum.

Make sure you use the "park domain" option in cpanel not addon domain.

Ok. But in the browser. Will it show up as domain.profusehost.net/forum or domain.net/forum? So it's showing the page but now a redirect. It's not just simply redirecting you to domain.profusehost.net/forum, but instead retriving it and displaying it under the name of domain.net/forum.

Hope I said it right :/

Yes, its possible. If you park your domain on in profuse host( For that you have to change the name servers in your domain control panel) you will be able to do this. But free accounts, i think profuse host gives only 5 sub domains i think.

By parking your domain; you could access all your files at [yoursubdomain].profusehost.net by using example.net too. That means [yoursubdomain].profusehost.net/forum and example.net/forum/ will display the same page.

But for a free account at Profusehost, you could have only 5 sub domains like [yoursubdomain].example.net. so, you could make your forum link as forum.example.net too.... All the three points to the same location but the address in address bar of your browser looks different....

Hope you got it.....

Oh, ok. So all links on the page could just be example.com/[page] instead of [yoursite].profusehost.net/[page] and the browser will show example.com/[page], right?

And I can just buy a domain of any site and it's able to be parked. Any site that can be adviced to buy a domain?

see jace
buy a domain park it to profuse
ask john to convert your account to a normal hosting account & set primary domain to example.net

then access your forum with your domain & place a home page

why should you use a sub domain of profuse instead of a full domain

I don;t understand

Do you have to pay for a normal account?

Also, what is the best reliable site where I can buy a domain.
And lastly, does it work for mails to. Like Jace@[bought domain] will actually be Jace@[subdomain].profusehost.net

You don't need to pay profusehost for changing your account to example.net or you could have both example.net and example.profusehost.net aat the same time as I have it now.

After parking, you could change your mail addresses to Jace@[bought domain], using the pop server at profusehost or you could try the Google Apps facility for having e-mails like someone@[bought domain] with more than 5GB space for each domain and the mail interface of G-Mail.

I registered my domain at Accudata, a company based on Cochin, India. They provide good support via Mail. Their site: Accudata Networks - server space,Domain name registration,Website development,Website designing kerala,India
