Default Linux taking over the world?

If I had my choice, I would eliminate windows from my vocabulary and computer room alltogether. Anyone else agree?

100% disagree. Linux is a programmer's OS, not really good at all for the common person. Linux is much better than mac, but Windows is still the most person friendly OS, though mac wants you to think they are with all the "im an mac, and I'm a pc" commercials.

Correct me if I'm wrong but not only arnt they as person friendly, they dont come preinstalled for new computers.

actually I think that dell has been selling PCs that come with Linux preinstalled on them.

EDIT:yeah, they do sell systems with Red Hat preinstalled on them.

Big thing Linux has on both Windows and Mac is that it's free
Also, Linux isn't primarily a programmer OS. It's used for servers, which doesn't necessarily entail programming as well. Also, there are a lot of distros that are just about as user-friendly as Windows or Mac, much like Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu. Though, of course, if you want to use Linux to its full potential for yourself, you'll have to go through manual installs etc, so Ubuntu and others wouldn't be as useful. Also, Ubuntu has recently released a version of its distro focussed on gamers. It's called Ubuntu Ultimate Gamer's Edition, or UUGE. Google is your friend

Edit: Linux is definitely going to become the most popular OS - Also, I use Gentoo Linux primarily ^_^

Lunix is great, but there has been many issues with it. #1 issue is with the hardware driver. I've tried to install Ubuntu last week on MY DV6000z 2GB 667 KINGSTON NVIDIA 7200 and I couldn't for some obvious reason. On the Ubuntu Forum one guy mentioned that it's my Video Card. I mean crap I don't have money to go and my a compatable hardware specs in order for a software to work. It's just not right in my opinion.

regards

I agree with U..... Even though Windows is popular, the new release - Vista needs much high performance system. Common people can't afford the upgrade cost and the cost of vista together.

Its time to change to Linux, which have many free & affordable distro's.

Linux is a very good operating system, its smooth and it has a nice design that looks like a mac XD. The only problem with linux is that it doesn't have much program support. Most games/programs will not work on linux.

Linux is definitely a cool operating system, I'll give ya that. But honestly, it just doesn't seem as... oh what's the word... easy-to-use as Windows. I'd hate to say it, but I guess Windows is the good median between the extremely-user-friendly design of Macs and the very-advanced design of Linux. I started using Linux on an old PC of mine, and the first thing I missed was plug-n-play. Having to restart the OS every time I unplug or plug in a USB drive kinda sucked. And I couldn't find any way to get my mic working. I dunno, maybe I'm just not using the right software and I need to mess around with it more. But I think I'm just kinda used to Windows - I have been using it for well over 10 years, so I guess I'm just hard to persuade to move to any other OS. Plus Windows is the popular one right now, so using the same OS the majority of my website-viewers use is pretty advantageous.
