Default which cms is the best?

open source cms is like the hottest and easiest thing to create a website..and as they are open source, you can modify them as per your wish...
now, for a person who wants to build a community based website, which cms do you think is the best and easiest and safest to operate on ???

joomla satisfies almost all needs of a cms but with one small problem, that the community builder is not integrated as a core component.one has to search and install the component and modules separately..
but, drupal ( tagline : community plumbing) has a community feature as a core..
moreover, joomla components and modules have become quite commercialised nowadays..

if you say the best CMS i prefer to classify them into 2 way:

1. CMS for community : Drupal (the best community offers ever)
2. CMS for all support : Joomla! (but now more than commercial than before, but you can find another gpl license comp and mod

but joomla! still not offer for multiple site, since you must pay sums of money to get its source, look like joomla! has failed to become more popular than expected

but Drupal as the way for its 6.x version can handle which joomla! cannot handle such as community as well.

but when you asked about the other choice, i prefer to use xoops!, its good and still developing.

about the other? its your favor. there's no bad CMS, but some of them need skilled to operate that. thats so bad if you are newbie, so get a easy and simple CMS

I like Xoops myself, but mostly I go for non-open source CMS, like SubDreamer. Best CMS for vBulletin compatability, I find, is MiraServer.

I prefer e107 for a basic site but I also like Joomla. Nucleus sucks.

I am totally agree with you. For advance, complicated website I will use Joomla, if I need good component or template there many commercial support that are willing to help me
and lately my friend introduce e107 which seems quite nice for a simple website CMS and for Nucleus... ??? ah it's and old history..

I personally think a modified version of phpnuke such as nukesentinal etc.. is the best CMS portal but i've never really tried other portals such as Joomla and all. phpnuke was to good to switch away from so i never bothered switching XP. Nuke does have a lot of security flaws but that can be fixed with a security mod XD

i tried phpnuke once. just installed it and was experimenting. the design didnt fantasize me much. was too dull. (due apologies) in comparison to joomla, which was quite more powerful and efficient on first use.
i had a look at its community .. on joomla.org , and its HUGE. the forum is crammed and the extensions ( extensions.joomla.org) has over 1500 cool addons . moreover, its quite stable and SECURE.
what do u say about phpizabi?

I have to say Joomla (http://www.joomla.org). The reason I like Joomla is because it is very easy to use once you get the hang of it. You might find it a little confusing at the beginning but once you play around with it for few weeks, you will thank the developers at Joomla for making you life so easy. . You can install Joomla by using the "auto script installer" that Profuse Host offer.

After your installation is complete, you only need to do few things to get your site up and running.

1. Log into admin panel and go to Site > Global Configuration and make proper changes for your site.
2. After that go to content and make proper changes to "section manager" and "category manager". Section manager is basically will list different sections of your site. For example, you can create a section called "news".

Also, make changes to your "categories". Categories are basically part of the section you created under "section manager". If you created a section of "news", now you can create new categories. For example, entertainment, apache, linux etc.

After you are done creating your categories and section, you can manage news or articles by going to "content > content by section". Now lets say you want to create a news page now, so all you have to do is goto content > content by section > news > news item. Simply click on new and now you can type and publish your news pages. Make sure to check "Show on Front Page" if you want to news item to published on your home page.

3. The template system in Joomla is very flexible. You can assign different templates for different pages. So you can design a different template for different pages in your menu. This way you don't have just 1 template for your whole site. I see professional sites using Joomla now and its very hard to tell sometimes that its Joomla.

4. Site Modules are amazing feature and they are very easy to use. With modules you can display your ads, top five news item, most read items or you can just type whatever you want in the "custom output" and it will show up whereve you publish it. Just make sure to disable the WYSIWYG editor under "global configuration" if you are pasting things like javascript codes or html codes. For some reason, the editor messes up the code when you try to create new modules in joomla.

Play with it and give it few days. It took me a while to get a hang of it but I am glad that i decided to stick to Joomla.

I liked the look and feel of e107 but joomla was easier to use and will probably be much better in the long run. I suggest staying far away from wiki sites, those are completely bogus.

BECAUSE you want it based on a community, the best content management system is built into phpizabi (www.phpizabi.net) and all the community (login, profile, desktop, blog, forum, site stats, etc.) is already there. I use it on my site, but I also changed almost all the code on their program and sell plugins on their site for a little extra spending money. It has a great webmaster community (online.phpizabi.net) and they are always there to help you out.

Good Luck!
