Some days ago I tried to install Linux Ubuntu on my Sony Vaio A617B laptop. Booting the DVD with the necessary software wasn't a problem.. I selected the install Ubuntu option and away we were ! .. Atleast that's what I thought.... While trying to make a new partition for it's installation, Ubuntu suddenly froze and stopped from doing any activity ?!
I tried Suse Linux 10, started the install menu, chose language, but again when trying to make the partitions the system suddenly stopped activity. I tried a last time, this time Fedora core 6. This installation worked ! I have no idea why Ubuntu and Suse both failed the install on my 'nearly' new Sony laptop... I also tried the server edition of Ubuntu, but no luck.
I've been thinking about a hardware block by sony to install any linux edition, but then again, why did Fedora install and others not..
Anyone who can lighten up here?
