Kubuntu is nice, but the KDE desktop makes it heavy. Ubuntu is great and you can use the cd as a live cd or install it.http://www.ubuntu.com/

First try to find out on your own, be for you ask the forum ! Try Google !

For free operation systems watch out:
DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD.

My personal favorites:
FreeBSD (for server usage)
DesktopBSD (if you need a stable, secure all day computer)
Dreamlinux (if you want a BLING BLING GUI, look like a Mac)

you can download a lof of OS'es around the net such as on linux based operating systems. you may also download Microsoft operating systems but as we all know they need license keys so most likely they'll be allowing you to use that downloaded operating system (if its installed) for only 30 days or less.

You could also try real UNIX like solaris (by sun) !

Just look around and try some live cd's, this means you have a cd that can be booted without touching your harddisk. You just try a fully featured version of the operation system and if you like it, you can install it.

Basicallly Linux or Unix based as it's open source...and therefore free. Don't download it over P2P though. For this it is legal but I know people who have been reported to their ISPs for doing t.

Basically you are right but not every Linux distribution is free ! There are some companies who provide support and a custom designed Linux operation system, so they want you to pay for it. But the general code is open source, so every body has wants to develop something for Linux or want to optimize Linux can do that.

That is the major reason why so many developers choose Linux as their main operation system or use a professional version of either Linux or Unix cause of security and update reasons. (You have somebody to blame for if your system does not work ;-) )

Use Magic JellyBean! It can find your windows product key through the encrypted files. It will only work if the product key ISNT being used, but there is a chance. And, theres the windows vista "Trick" lol not hack. Before you ask, the links are in the text.

Please do not provide illegal content in this forum! Windows is not open source so you have to buy a license to run windows. For further questions about the windows copyright law just contact Microsoft. They will inform you about the details and if you are allowed to use windows (the version does not matter) or not.

I'd suggest: SymphonyOS, Or eLive:Where Debian meets Enlightenment... Both are really great and eye catchers of a Linux Distro and also really user friendly SymphonyOS is Based off of Ubuntu
