Default Any CentOS guru there?

When using the text interface, what shoul I type to shift mode, back to a desktop screen?ThanxI'm new to this OS, in fact I do not remember how I swiched to command line mode, please help meNO MORE ANSWERS NEEDED !!!!!!!!!! ThanksGunnart, when typing that, it happens nothing but thank you very much.Smokingun, starttx is the command I needed and yes, I know centOS is a distribution and Linux the OS, it'sjust that when using Ubuntu I never needed that command. Thank you very much, please wait a little for your 10 points.

if you opened the text mode (command promt) from the desktop, just type EXIT and hit ENTER. or you can press ALT+ENTER :-)

CentOS is a distribution, not an OS. Linux is the OS.Perhaps you didn't "switch" to command line mode, but instead you broke your install of X. When it boots, do you see a lot of error messages? What happens when you type "startx" at the prompt?If that works, but only until you reboot again, try switching to runlevel 5 (type "init 5" at the command line).My recommendation is to quit the hand-holding and get into the guts of the OS. There's plenty of documentation online, start with the sissy For Dummies books and work your way up to man pages (pun intended). And ditch the GUI, until you know what you're doing, it will only be a crutch.... and like most crutches, it'll prevent such activities as: running, swimming, driving, jumping, crouching, and operating a computer.Better yet, switch to Gentoo. It has a very persuasive sink-or-swim approach to Linux.
