Default Debian read iso from

hard drive? Hi all,Just installed Debian Etch 4.0. When I go to install custom packages like Amarok the system tells me to insert the dvd marked Debiani386.iso. Now I have the iso on my hard drive which I downloaded. However, I can not burn it to dvd because I don't have growisofs installed for k3b. I can't get growisofs installed because when I try to install it the system asks for the dvd. This dog chasing his tail. Can I somehow get the gui Adept Intaller and apt-get from the command line to read the iso from my hard drive as a repository as if it where burned to dvd?I know it has something to do with mounting and looping, but I need step by step instructions please. Thanks, thow do you do this from the command line. when i run apt-get install it asks for the dvd.thankst

Do you have another computer you can use to burn the disc as yo can use xp to burn an iso to a dvd and then you would just re-insert the disc into the pc and away you go.

I know that there is a way to mount a disc on xp and how to do it but am unsure on how to do it with linux at the current stage. Try googleing it and see if there is a tutorial on the net to tell you how to do it.

As I have not had much experience with Debian I would do the same thing to answer your question.

Hope this helps.

The quickest way might be to use someone else's pc to burn the disc.

Cant you just use apt-get to install the software you need. What about downloading the .deb packages. Its strange for Debian to be doing this

Can you use a windows pc to burn the debian disc to so you can then get the file you require or do you not have access to a windows based system? This would definately fix your problem by burning to a cd/dvd depending on size of iso.

If you don't have a win pc try and get a hold of someone else's like a friend or family member's to burn the copy.
