Default Which 22-28” monitor will give me the sharpest text in a Word or Excel document...

...with the highest resolution? I need to have a minimum resolution of 1280x1024 (aspect ratio 5:4), preferably higher. I require a high resolution because I need to be able to look at several MS Word pages at once and look at large spreadsheets.

I do not do any gaming. My current PC (Windows XP) has a 256 KB ATI Radeon 9600 Pro video card with a max resolution of 16.7M colors at 2048x1536 (VGA/DVI/S-video). My old CRT monitor just broke (22” Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2020u). I am hoping to get a display that is even better and larger than what I got with that monitor.

I hooked up my PC to a HDTV Toshiba 26LV47 using the VGA port; but the text in a WORD document is unreadable and distorted at the LCD’s max resolution of 1024x768 (aspect ratio 4:3).

With the S-video cable, the picture is even worse. With the DVI-HDMI cable, I did not get a signal at all.

Which monitor is best for my purpose?

If you want the biggest maybe you should think about Apples 30" Cinema Display ! That is a really amazing thing and great for work.

I myself use a 17" Macbook Pro (so my screen is quiet small compared to the 30" Cinema Display). But I have a second Screen here around, so when I am at home I just connect the other screen and soon I have more points to watch.

Maybe that is also a solution for you ! Buy 2 20" instead of one 28" cause as far as I know it should be nearly the same price but more pixels to see. I am not sure if this is possible with your graphic card, but I think it should be.
