Default Favourite Nintendo Console

Just out of curiosity, what's everyone's favourite Nintendo console? (Hopefully I haven't missed any).

I think mine would probably be the N64, for all it's great games, such as both Zelda games, Perfect Dark, Lylat Wars, Goldeneye, Mario Kart, Super Mario 64 there's just so many awesome game and awesome gaming memories.

Mine would be Nintendo 64 because it was the one with the game Goldeneye which was a great, fun game to play with friends. Other than that I would have to go with Sony's ps 1,2,3 and Sony PSP as it has the best quality and the best games as the only nintendo game I like is the Goldeneye one.

Is there anyway that I could get this game to play on my computer some how through emulation?? Does anyone know where I could look for this??

For emulating the N64, the best emulator I've found has been Project 64 (http://www.pj64-emu.com/).
It supports a wide number of games and it supports plugins which means that if a game isn't supported due to video, you could try other graphics plugins to see if they work, or if you could use an alternate controller plugin.

You'll have to find the roms on other sites, but I'm guessing posting them would go against the rules of this board.

i think Sony vs Nintendo is a big tug of war in the whole world.
There are a equal amount of consumers for both but the sony ones are gaining because of their stylish & more features currently in the Market.

This is the reason why they are leading a bit more than Nintendo

Thanks, Doomed for your help. It has worked and the game works really good. It's great that it works so well on my computer. It is a great game. Say if I want to change the set up of controls on my keyboard how would I do it for the game emulator?

I don't agree with you, Flickall when you say there are an equal amount of consumers for both because I for one would not buy the Nintendo gaming consoles any more even though I had bought some of the nintendo game boys years ago.

I reckon their would be more consumers for Sony as it is for hard core gamers whereas Nintendo markets a different part of the market normally.

I think I will stick with my ps2 until ps3 becomes really cheap.

No worries, it's my pleasure!

Okay, as for changing the controller configuration you've got a lot of options.
To change the configuration using the default controller plugin (Jabo DirectInput7), you just open Project 64 and go, Options->Configure Controller Plugin. Then you can edit the key mappings for each button on each of the controllers by just clicking on the button near the key and pressing the key you wish to have mapped to the button.

However, there are other controller plugins available. My favourite is Darkman's DInput 4.0. (can be downloaded here)

This plugin has good support for multiple controller profiles (the default one has profile support, but the managment of profiles is much better in this one) so you can choose from a whole list of profiles, customised for each game (I believe there's already a controller profile for Goldeneye as well as a few others.) There is a profile editor that allows you to make your own profiles or edit the existing ones. The best thing about this plugin for me though, we the fact that you can use the mouse as input, which is great for FPS games, like Goldeneye. It takes a bit of fiddling, but you should be able to get it so the mouse can be used reasonably well.

Useful places for information are the Project 64 website (http://www.pj64-emu.com/) and it's help section (Forums, FAQ, Manual, etc.)

Actually that's not true, at the moment the Nintendo Wii is doing better than both the Xbox 360 and the Sony PS3. Admittedly the Gamecube didn't do too well, but Nintendo's making up for it with their new console.

Oh well so one else's go for a short time until the price drops again. Thanks for the help on the emulator will give those other suggestions a try.

It's great having someone who knows as much as me on the forums but also in different areas to me, thanks again Doomed.

I still think the PS3 is the best but at the current time price is the deciding factor, sadly.

I've got a GBA, 64, NGC and a Wii.

I think my favoriete is the Wii. Better then all other consoles IMO and Twilight Princess really kicks ass. One of or the best game I've ever played. Can't wait for Brawl and Galaxy, and as a DBZ fan I'm waiting for Tenkaichi 3 too.

Say the ps3 and Wii were both 600 EUR and I have to choose one of them, I'd still go for the Wii. I've never really liked playstation.. The controllers just don't feel good IMO, and most games lack real good gameplay that Nintendo does offer.

Yeah Twilight Princess is awesome, haven't played the Wii version though. I borrowed my friends Gamecube for a while so I got a chance to play it, although unfortunately I never got a chance to get too far...

I know what you're saying about the Playstation controllers, I never liked them either and I just generally preferred Nintendo's line up of games.

After using the Wii-mote and nunchuck I really find the normal controllers very stange and kinda annoying. It just doesn't give you the freedom to move your hands. One of the things that make playing on the Wii better.

The N64 controller was actually pretty bad. I still don't know how they wanted you to hold it. But the games were great (just played some lylatwars )

The NGC controller has been the best so far IMO. Easy layout, fits nice in your hand and it has real good force feedback.

The 360 controller is good too. A little big and weird at first. But as soon as you've gotten used to it it's a good one. Also great force feedback.

The dual-shock does not have a really easy to use lay-out (neither has the 360 controller actually) and the force feedback isn't even all that good. Does have lots of buttons though.

The Sixaxis is one of the worst. No force feedback, same lay-out. Motion sensing that A. Doesn't work B. is just a stupid attempt to copy Nintendo. And the trigger buttons aren't that good. While playing motorstorm the it kept feeling as if it would slip out of my hand..

I liked the N64 controller, I know a lot of people criticized it but I thought it was good, especially compared to other offerings at the time, like the Playstation's controller. Although later on Sony had the dual shock thing, the Nintendo rumble pak was awesome (although it made the controller a little heavy, but I didn't mind).

I haven't used Wii controllers, but I did quite like the Gamecube's controllers as well. I've just always hated the Playstation's controllers and wasn't too fused on the Xbox's controllers, although I don't really know what the PS3's and the 360 controllers are like.

The ps3's is extreemly light. Don't really know if that's good or bad.. I'm not used to it being that light.

The triggers are kinda annoying IMO cause the controller slips out of my hand. The playstation controllers never have really had a shape that fits in your hand. You really have to hold it. As for the Gamecube ones, they actually really fit, making them far better.

The 360 one takes getting used to. The triggers are great and the rumble is good to. Just a little big. You'd get used to that though.

In my opinion there is really only one awesome nintendo game and that was the goldeneye game way back in n64. Since then the only other ok game has been super mario bros but it has been way overdone.

The playstation range is the best and has the best variety of games and is heaps better with graphics.

The nintendo has never been known for good graphics. Is the Wii even HD capable??

The Wii sounds like a crap name to call a gaming rig if that's what you guys call it cause I don't know if someone wants to play with their wii or go for a piss.

I am going to stick to my playstation consoles.

Obviously I am sorry to say this but anyone who thinks that the Sony consoles are crap aren't true gamers and the same to a lesser extent can be said about the XBOX things.

Any reason why a ps3 would be better then the 360? 360 has awesome online play.

And a real games always goes for PC, not consoles. I'll use my PC for these more 'serious' games and Wii for fun. Other then that there is not one playstation game that can beat the Legend of Zelda serie.

Nintendo isn't the only one with an overdone series though, Sony have their Crash Bandicoot. Also Nintendo have been in the console business a lot longer than both Sony and Microsoft, it'd be the same case if they'd all been around the same amount of time, they'd all have series that had been overdone (although I still do like the Mario series).

I think you've missed the entire point of the Wii. It's not designed to be for hardcore gamers and graphics whores, who need to have the latest and greatest cutting edge technology, it's targeted at a wider audience, of casual gamers and people who wouldn't have thought of touching a game console before.

Yes, the Wii does not have the greatest graphics and neither did the Gamecube (although the N64 were technically better than the PSX, I always thought they were so close it was really a matter of opinion), but having the greatest technology pushes the price up and due to the Wii's intended audience, this was not what Nintendo wanted. Look at the price of the PS3 compared to the Wii, how many people could justify spending that much when they could get a 360 or a Wii for cheaper, regardless of how good it is technically.

And no, the Wii does not have HD.

Quote:

The name hasn't seemed to worry the millions of people that have bought it. The Wii has currently sold more units than the 360 and WAY more units than the PS3. (See here)

And how do you figure that? I could say the same thing about people who hate Nintendo consoles, and it would be no more true than that. What is it about Sony consoles that makes people "True Gamers"? Are PC gamers "True Gamers"? What is a "True Gamer"? I think you'll find there are plenty of gamers with different console preferences, but that doesn't mean that the ones that disagree with yours aren't gamers.

Sorry I was not trying to sound bias to one platform or another.

The Nintendo Wii was made esp. to entice new gamers to the table who hadn't played games before or found the other consoles too difficult to muster or not enjoyable.

The PS3 is great but way too overpriced at the current time. I agree with you although the ps2 is fine.

Yes all the consoles have overdone games and isn't it time for Microsoft to come up with another good shooting game and not just Halo. Although I believe it is the only awesome XBOX game.

Honestly when is it going to be the time where we have one gaming rig such as using our computers where we can buy controllers to use with a number of different games and have a platform where we can play Halo with the ps controls or the wii controls. That would be cool but would never happen.

In terms of price comparisons Wii is cheapest, then PS3 and then XBOX 360 if you incorporate all the same specifications for ps3 and xbox as wii is a completely different type of rig/setup.

PS3 comes with blu-ray. The xbox needs it's hd-dvd drive to be bought separately and then does it sit outside of the system or do you have to open it up and void warranty.

Wasn't trying to go one way or the other although I personally prefer sony and the pc for gaming I do realise that the other gaming consoles are good and I have used Nintendo consoles for many years such as the game boy range but not any more and respect that they all have different audiences.

Was trying to provide other people with more information on how the systems differed and that they are all good in different respects even though in my last post I did have an attack on Nintendo. (I usually reserve this for Telstra, Microsoft, HP and Symantec due to poor/nonexistant Technical support).

I've always like the Mario series. Many people haven't played it cause it is "un-cool" but most mario games are really fun. And that's what gaming is about in the end.

And I wouldn't want to ever spend more then 350 EUR on a console what only can play games (and some other small stuff like browsing the internet. But not like a computer). I'm going to spend 600 EUR on a Graphic card so it's not that I've got to little money. I just think it isn't worth spending that much on something that limited.

Yeah, I prefer Nintendo, but I really can't justify purchasing a console when I've got a PC, when I really would mostly use the PC anyway, save for a few games. If I ever do get a console though, I'll probably end up going with a Wii, mostly for Zelda and the new Mario which looks pretty good.

Oh and I hear what you're saying about Telstra and Microsoft (don't know about HP or Symantec, haven't had to deal with them). they're evil!

I agree with you Doomed. That's why I wait until the awesome consoles become cheaper and then buy them..

However I would not be able to reckon with the price for a Wii but haven't really looked at any of the newer games for a while but don't really appeal to me as much as some of the other titles available on ps.

Don't buy a Norton anti-virus product as they are Symantec and HP takes 2 weeks to change over a faulty hard disk drive under warranty and do not know how to use their own drivers as I have spent 3 hours and then another 3 hours at a later stage getting the drivers to work properly for my 4 in 1 HP device and they couldn't tell me the correct way. figured it out. Had to plug in the device, install windows drivers, uninstall them and install HP drivers instead of installing the HP ones in the first place. Stupid and slow if you ask me esp. since they didn't know how to use them...

Oh and Telstra and Bigpond are located at www.telstra.com and www.bigpond.com
But wouldn't recommend them at all.

A little news-flash. The Wii is going to get 2 new channels soon.

Also they've finally included Sonic in their SSB franchise (YEAH!). Some other (unfortunate) news though: The game has been delayed. Probably will now only be released in Februari, so I can't get it for Christmas. It really does look awesome, and it appears that they've included a storyline of some sort.

Can't wait
