Default can ps3 play old playstation games? yes

PS3 will be able to play existing Sony videogames which can be downloaded over a network. Users have to pay a fee for access to older games. Expect to pay $599 for 60 gb version and $499 for 20 gb version of playstation 3.

I remember that ps1 games are not compatible in saving on ps2 memory cards. Will ps1 and ps2 games save on the ps3 HD?

I use my psone memory sticks in my ps2 to save for all my games and it works a treat. Never bought a specific ps2 one as yet... Has any one bought the ps3 yet??

Would love to know what people think of it when they own it and have played it for a while. I have played it and tried it but don't own it and love it.

The ps3 40gb version can NOT play ps2 games. They've gotten rid of the chip and the emulation.
80gb version US still has the chip. European version can emulate it.

20gb version already is EOL

I don't have one. I've played it, multiple times. It's kinda dissapointing.. I expected more. And the triggers haven't been placed right and the motion sensing they put in it is rubbish. You can tilt, nothing happens. More, more, more and then suddenly wham, you're off.

I read it can play most PS2 Games and they didn't say anything about PS1 games. LoL, I don't know why you want to play a PS1 game unless its a classic.

PS1 games can be played. PS2 games can only be played on the 80 Gib and 60 Gib version. Not sure about the 20 Gib. The 40 Gib does NOT support ps2 games. The chip has been left out and it's unable to emulate it. It can, however, play ps1 games if I'm not mistaken.

Sony claimed the PS3 would play PS2 games and older. Lately they have ran into many problems with the backwards compadability, especially when it first came out. The Wii seems to be the best buy out there right now as far as new gaming hardware.
