Default Which editor do you use?

Which editor do you use to edit your web pages and source codes of programs? It could be of any language, can be HTML, PHP, C, C++, or any. Share what all facilities it has got here, so that we could find out which one is better for each programming language.

Also, give a link from where it could be downloaded.

I am using notepad++ editor to edit most of the source codes, mainly PHP. Its a free software, light weight and portable versions are also available for pen drives. For editing HTML, I use nvu, another free software. For C, C++, along with notepad++, I sometimes use the default text editor in Linux and the GCC compiler and rarely the Turbo compiler in windows.

The portable versions can be found at protableapps.com

I saw many people using dreamwaever, so I tested it on my own and I have to agree with you it seems to be the best editor for html and php, but it is quiet expensive as well.

I'm interested in Dreamweaver but it's honestly out of my price range at the moment. Any suggestions for the best free editor for Windows?

I've tried KompoZer for a WYSIWYG editor and CoffeeCup HTML Editor (free version) for a text editor. Thanks for any suggestions!

As you maybe already noticed there is no clear top choice. It depends on what you like and like to do with your editor.

Features I look for:
Code highlighting
type reductions (some way to stop me from repeating myself, by creating custom templates, this speeds up work a lot)
Project overview (I want to have all corresponding files easy to access)
a lot of "undo" (cause I make faults like everyone does)
a nice search function

Therefore my choice is Textmate, but this is Mac only. But if you tell us about what you need and like we maybe find some piece of software that matches.

Eclipse, one of the best IDE. Is original for Java but you can look for plugins for C, C++, HTML, PHP, etc etc etc

You can get more info about this in Eclipse.org home

Default Try dreamweaver

If you are designing a website then you should be very happy to design your website using Dreamweaver. It provides very advanced features and also does not require any advanced knowledge in website designing. If you are looking for a good advanced editor you can try Netbeans 6.5. It provides php, javascript, jsp, css, html support.
